SAMIAPPAN MUTHUSAMY, M.D., F.A.C.G.

Dr. Muthusamy is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He completed his residency at Long Island College Hospital, Downstate University, Brooklyn, NY and a two-year Fellowship in Gastroenterology at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center/Seton Hall University of Paterson, NJ.

Dr. Muthusamy has been in private practice since August 1980, specializing in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Endoscopy. He is President and senior partner of the Center for Digestive Diseases, and Founder and Medical Director of the Endo Surgi Center, Union, NJ, and the Endo Surgi Center of Old Bridge, Old Bridge, NJ. He has been awarded the prestigious distinction of "Fellow in the American College of Gastroenterology" (F.A.C.G.).

Dr. Muthusamy served as past Chief of Gastroenterology/ Endoscopy at St. Elizabeth (Trinitas) Hospital from 1981 - 1995, and remains actively involved in teaching Resident Doctors and Medical Interns. As Clinical Assistant Professor at Seton Hall University and New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, he was awarded "Teaching Attending Physician of the Year."

Dr. Muthusamy is a seasoned lecturer and presents frequently to local community and civic groups and at professional educational symposiums. His primary topics of expertise are colon cancer prevention, diseases of the esophagus, stomach, intestine, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, gastric reflux, hepatitis, colitis, ulcers, and cirrhosis of the liver.

Dr. Muthusamy is an active staff member of area hospitals and serves on several hospital committees. In the past he has provided a GI Help Line for the community and professional courtesy publications to other physicians. He is dedicated to educating the general public on early detection of colon cancer through having a primary colonoscopy. He accomplishes this through printed literature and public speaking engagements.


EYAD Y. BAGHAL, M.D.

Dr. Baghal is Board Certified in both Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. After completion of medical school, Dr. Baghal completed a three-year Internal Medicine residency at St. Michael's Medical Center, Seton Hall University Newark, NJ and a three-year Gastroenterology Fellowship at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Seton Hall University Paterson, NJ. Dr. Baghal has published articles for the American Journal of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Baghal joined the Center for Digestive Diseases in 1999 and obtained privileges at local area hospitals to perform GI Endoscopy (see list of hospitals below). His commitment to education is demonstrated through his willingness to assume the role of Chief of the Academy of Gastroenterology at the Seton Hall University, Trinitas Hospital. In this capacity, medical residents are mentored in clinical experiences related to GI/Endoscopy, to include ERCP's and motility evaluations. Additionally, Dr. Baghal performs outpatient GI procedures at the Endo Surgi Center of Union and Endo Surgi Center of Old Bridge. He contributes to the community by donating his time to public speaking engagements related to the early detection of colon cancer.


PAVAN SACHAN, M.D.

Dr. Sachan is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He completed his Fellowship in Gastroenterology and, Clinical Nutrition at New York Medical College in New York.

Dr. Sachan joined the Center for Digestive Diseases in July of 2000, and has admitting privileges at local area hospitals (see list below). He assumed the role as Clinical Instructor at Seton Hall University, Trinitas Hospital, offering his expertise in gastrointestinal disorders, GI endoscopy and hepatology to third and fourth year medical students and Residents. Advanced skills are a passion of his as demonstrated through the use of Endoscopic Ultrasound for the staging of GI cancers and ERCP's, for diagnosing and treatment of diseases of the gallbladder and pancreas. These skills enable Dr. Sachan to treat patients with complicated GastrolHepatobiliary diseases.

Dr. Sachan is an active member of several hospital committees, and is a popular speaker to local groups on a variety of GI topics such as diseases of the esophagus, stomach, intestine, colon, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, gastric reflux, as well as liver problems including hepatitis and cirrhosis.

Like his colleagues Dr. Muthusamy and Dr. Baghal, patient and community education related to early detection of colon cancer is a top priority.


DHANASEKARAN RAMASAMY, M.D.

Dr. Dhanasekaran (Dan) Ramasamy is a board certified gastroenterologist, having recently completed a one year Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopic Fellowship at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI, under world renowned gastroenterologists, Marc Catalano, MD and Joseph Geenen, MD. His advanced endoscopic training focused on endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP including spy glass procedure (direct endoscopic visualization of bile and pancreatic ducts), as well as double balloon enteroscopy (complete examination of the small intestine). He has presented more than 20 abstracts at various scientific meetings throughout the United States, including Digestive Disease Week, the world’s largest gastroenterology conference, as well as at the American College of Gastroenterology annual conference.

Prior to his advanced endoscopy training, Dr. Ramasamy completed a comprehensive four year gastroenterology training at East Carolina University in North Carolina, one year of which was dedicated to basic research on liver stellate cells. His research work was presented at the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease annual meeting, and was awarded the outstanding research abstract at his University’s annual research meeting.

Dr. Ramasamy has also completed a one year fellowship in Nutrition Support at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, one of the largest nutrition support service in the world. He is a Diplomate of the American board of Physician and Nutrition Specialist, the National Board of Nutrition Support Certification, and the American College of Nutrition. Prior to his nutrition training, he completed his Internal Medicine residency at Trinitas Hospital in 2002, and his medical degree at Madras Medical College, Madras, India. He recently joined Center for Digestive Diseases in August 2008.

Dr. Ramasamy is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Physicians (ACP), the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA), the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD), and the American Society of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition (ASPEN).

AARON JAVIER, MS, PA-C

Aaron Javier, MS, PA-C graduated Rutgers University in 2000 with a bachelor degree in science, specializing in exercise science and psychology. He continued to grow and utilize his medical skills and knowledge while working at J.F.K. Hospital Department of Health and Rehabilitation. Aaron spent several years treating and supervising patients recovering from neurological and physical illness. In early 2005, Aaron received his Masters degree in physician assistant studies from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is a fellow member of the New Jersey State Society of New Jersey and the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

The physician assistant program entailed three years of extensive didactic and clinical training in multiple medical settings. Education consisted of classroom and laboratory instruction in the medical and behavioral sciences (such as anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis). This was followed by clinical rotations in internal medicine, surgery, gastroenterology, geriatrics, pediatrics, OB/GYN, medicine, neurology, psychiatry, and outpatient medicine. During these rotations, Aaron trained side by side with medical students and residents under the supervision of various medical doctors.

Physician Assistants are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. As part of the comprehensive responsibilities, PA's conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illness, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive healthcare, assist in surgery, and write prescriptions in the State of New Jersey. Physician Assistants (PA's) are trained in intensive education programs accredited by the accreditation review commission of education of the Physician Assistant. Employment in the State of New Jersey requires passing a national certification exam every six years, state license, and logging of 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years.
